I am so proud of my kids - they are just good hearted people! To see them pursuing things that make them happy and contribute to the community is one of the best things for a parent. They get along with each other, are loving, and kind to others.
Who's going to be a hair/make-up/fashion model tonight?! That girl - right there!
It's a total WIN-WIN because not only does Mariah get to experience a really fun evening, the show is a benefit for breast cancer. (And she got new cowboy boots, to go with the outfit they are providing. They were on her Christmas wishlist anyway, she just gets a chance to do a little breaking in of the boots now. Wish we wore the same size - I'd be happy to help with that). She may be young, but Mariah will do great things. She has the biggest heart of us all.
Gib had his Great Day of Service, and the Frisbee for Fibromyalgia benefit tournament. And you can't forget the Eagle Project, or all the camping/canoe trips with younger scouts who didn't have a dad to take them. Countless hours spent as a friend, leader, and mentor. We may never know the impact that had on others, but we know Gib valued the friendship and help from senior scouts in his troop and it helped him become the great guy he is today.
Besides helping incoming freshmen get used to college life, Taryn also helps other students with ADD at her college through student support services. She donated for the campus drive to find a bone marrow match: perfectly willing to go through the procedure to help another person should she be a match. That's a real gift.
While getting a degree for the purpose of helping children, Indie also discovered a love for helping improve life for those in Africa and abroad. She is in the midst of planning with another Mercer senior a fundraiser for Zimbabwe Outreach Ministries. It's been a big time commitment for her, and they do such important work (see the link on her facebook). We are hoping the fundraiser is a huge success!
It's a blessing to be blessed with a wonderful family.
