What to Be?!

Life as we know it is a little slower and quieter now that Kay and Colton are gone. Haha. No seriously, it is; but mostly because Mariah is in a school camp all week. She is going to a career oriented/fun camp. The school district announced a limited number of 8th grade girls could sign up. I practically overnighted her application and check in the day I heard about it. I think I was the first one to respond.

Yesterday they learned about Visual Media - that would be camera, photography, etc. Mariah got to be the cameraman. Was there any doubt that would happen? She used some of her newfound tricks of the trade learned from cousin Colton and got a couple of cool upclose shots in her little 15 second montage of somebody spotting a friend they haven't seen in a long time and hiding behind the vending machine to jump out and scare them away. She said it was fun, and she learned stuff she didn't know previously, but would have liked more time to finish her piece. C'mon people....artist at work.

She didn't say anything about the Attorney for the City of Franklin who was their guest speaker. I'm thinking that says it all, really.

They also learned about launching rockets and botany. She said she can cross those two off her list of possible future career interests as of right now. As a matter of fact, she crossed off the entire field of engineering in one fell swoop. Taryn and I made appropriate noises of dismay.

Today they are learning about Business/Marketing, Graphic Design on a Dime and Technology. She was pretty excited about the schedule. She looked spectacular too. She fancied up an eyelet dress with a cool belt, added her new scarf she got at the $10 store in Nashville, a grey lightweight coverup in case she gets chilly in the A/C, and wore her green Converse. Considering those awesome feathers are still in her hair, I'd say she is looking strong for a career as an international fashion buyer. That's still my favorite idea for her because she would need someone to travel with her and carry stuff. Me.

And today's guest speaker is the Vet who we took McKitty to. I'm sure Mariah will find a way to squeeze that into conversation. Mariah is actually looking forward to asking a couple of questions because Veterinarian is back on her list of possibles. I still like Animal Psychologist myself. (I actually found a class in that, amazingly enough, at some college).

Mariah has several friends whose parents also got their daughters in. I wonder if they were as prompt as I in sending in their forms?! We are glad she is in good company. Most are from middle school, a church friend, and JoAnna's daughter too! Happy surprises on the first day!!

Time for me to go pick her up.

Mariah sounds like such an awesome kid. Voluntarily choosing to learn . . . who does that?
