One Last Teen

Mariah turned 13 this past weekend. I took her out to breakfast on Friday before school. We thought that was pretty cool. She missed the first two periods of the day. Awesome! She got back in time to take an English test so we fulfilled our responsibilities of the day. I had to go to preschool for a make up snow day to our parents. Ended up subbing in a strep zone. ugh. So far so good.

On Saturday, Mike and Gib took Mariah to see "I Am Number Four". They really liked it. I was at a Women's Retreat with the Good Shepherd Church and Grammy. We had a great time. I learned alot about different prayer practices and during free time I went with a small group to the Sewanee University's famous magnificent chapel to see the stained glass. It's not do-able in one trip I discovered. I also went to Hallelujah pottery and bought some cool soup bowls.

On Sunday, we returned home to briefly say hello, before saying Good-Bye to Mike as he headed out to Utah to spend time with his family. I also had a Coldwater Creek dinner thing to go to. I was really tired and wasn't much in the mood, but we got $15Carrabas gift cards to go because of how well we did in December.

Monday brought about a 3 day weekend. These days off just feel normal anymore. Who thinks anything of a 3 day weekend. It's going to be brutal when we have to start going to school like the real people do.

And that brings us to today. I thought it would be cute to see an "action shot" of a typical moment. Me, at the computer. Pixie on the couch near her person.... Said person, Mariah, the New Teen on the block, hanging out playing with her new iTouch.

What I failed to remember was, as a newly hatched 13 year old, I did not seek her permission to take a photo. Next time I am to ASK first and photo later. MUCH later. I noted that would negate the candid, and she noted that she did not like having a photo taken when she didn't know about it.

So I retorted that I didn't particularly like my cell phone going to school. I drove her to school and then had to drive back to retrive it! She didn't think that was a fair comparison since it was an accident, she felt horrible about it, apologized, etc., and I was taking a photo without permission (gasp!) on purpose. Oh, au contraire, my little chick.... our little repartee ended when I pointed out that it was the same in that I dealt with life's little irritations with a smile on my face and she should too.

Of course, not in a candid, because then it would be a "say CHEESE!"

Can you tell I have a new teenager?! Oh yes, I can!!!!
