Gib celebrated part of his birthday today just a little bit early. Because he will turn 14 on the Philmont trail, we did cards and presents and had birthday cake. The best gift of all was his own cell phone with texting. Gib had to put a puzzle together to figure out his cell phone number, then call it to find it. This took him forever! The puzzle part that is...Mike is one dang good puzzle maker. Not so good at hiding something when a child is nearby and then texting a birthday message when that child is within hearing range. Mike had to re-hide the cell phone that Mariah had hidden but didn't do nearly as good a job and Gib, the little demon, was all eyes.
Gib and Mariah previously shared a cell phone that they would take with them whenever they went somewhere so they could reach us. I am happy because now I can text Gib or even Riah with important messages such as "dentist appt: you are a car rider - do NOT get on the bus" and hopefully they remember to check their phones when school gets out and won't make me wait in the 30 minute car rider pick up line in vain anymore. But this privilege comes with important responsibility and they better not mess it up because dad was not 100% on board with the texting thing and we had to compromise with stricter limitations. Remember: What good parents giveth, good parents can taketh away!!
When Gib gets back from his backpacking trip we will all go out for his birthday dinner and get to hear all about his adventures on the trail. He leaves before dawn on July 1st and returns late night on the 13th. I am starting to take deep breaths when I think about this trip...cliffs, bears, broken bones, forest fires, sunburns, blisters, and that's just off the top of my head. Give me 10 minutes and I could list alot more. Gib: Stay behind the big guys *unless they're doing something stupid* until the 11th so you can turn 14 and come home safe!!!!
