Wow there is a huge difference between walking 3 to 5 miles a day at preschool, followed by a fairly regular M & F walk of between 3 to 5 miles and going 6 miles with Gib and some Scouts and dads on a little hike (Mike wasn't feeling well and the 6:45 am start time was a serious deterrent!) Up and over a hill, and another one, and another one, I lost count how many - and I'm talking the kind where you can't talk because you're concentrating on sucking in enough oxygen to breathe your last breath - and in slippery mud 2-3" deep in many places. Oh, and let's not forget the rocky spots covered by just enough water to send you ice skating! Downhill. My calves have yet to stop aching whenever I stretch my legs. I thought for sure a 5 mile walk today would work it all out. Nope, it all still hurts. Maybe more. And, get this, Gib and I have agreed to....DO IT AGAIN! He needs to get in hiking shape for Philmont this summer and I just need to get in shape. We have better plans this Saturday, but we'll be back on the trail...yippee. Oh yeah, one more thing, lest you think "aww, what a nice mother-son activity!" I never saw Gib after we got out of the truck! I did however carry all his water and his snack in my backpack. He and his friends ran the whole hike. Kids - what a bunch of freaks.
Today Mariah has her first Talent Show rehearsal. She was chosen to be an MC. I am kind of glad they took her for that spot instead of singing. Not that she couldn't have done it, but to be honest, we live in an area where alot of kids are already years into singing lessons and I just didn't see us getting the song performance ready on time. Mariah was okay with being chosen for either spot, so it's all good. A parent has to be at this first meeting, which I did last year, and it was endlessly long and boring, so this year I know to sit at the back and be ready to slip out when I can't stand it any longer. We do have an appt to keep so it's good to have an excuse.
I have been asked to stop and pick up 3D animal valentines for Mariah. If I leave now, I can check the corner store and maybe I'll find them on the first try. Wouldn't that be nice?!

Kids are crazy on those hikes. I would have been dying! I'm thinking I might do better if I quit getting pregnant.
I would have died right along with you.
My favorite line... kids-bunch of freaks. I could not stop laughing! :D
Yay for Gibs hikes during the Biggest Loser comp. It would be sad if all that heavy breathing wasn't going toward a prize.
3-D animal valentine? Who'd a thunk?
