Girl Lips

Gib is all packed and ready to leave at 4 am for his flight to New Mexico tomorrow. We went to the pool today and while we were there, I asked him if he packed non-aerosol sunscreen because we only have the spray kind. He said he grabbed one of our bottles, so I was glad I had asked. We stopped by Walgreens this evening to get him some lotion and then we were going to swing thru Sonic for one last Creamsicle Shake calorie-ridden send-off to help keep my boy strong on the trail! I spotted the Chap-Stick after I had paid and basically the following conversation ensued while I am staring at the Chap-Stick display:

C: Gib did you pack any chapstick?
G: I don't need any.
C: Yes you do.
G: No I don't.
C: (rolled HER eyes and approched it from another angle) Did you pack any antibiotic neosporin ointment?
G: There's probably some in my first aid kit.
C: Probably or it is?
G: There's some of those alcohol wipe pads.
C: Yeah, that'd feel real good on chapped lips Gib. You can use chapstick or neosporin on chapped lips, which do you want? You will be changing climates not to mention elevation, trust me, your lips will get chapped.
G: Maybe that happens to Girl Lips. I don't need it.
C: I think the Death Ray look must have come into my eyes.
G: I'll take this one. And he pulled out the closest Chap-Stick tube to him.

Then we went and got Sonic. As soon as we got home I demanded of his father, "Mike? Does Gib need Chap-Stick?" and he said, "Yes, Gib you do" and I gave Gib a big ol' SO THERE!!!!!! It's not just Girl Lips!!!!! Geez, can you believe he even said that?! I'm subtracting 100 points from his Perfect-Man-in Training tally right now.

Gib - have a GREAT backpacking trip and remember to put that little tube of chapstick in your pocket just like I told you to. And stay away from the edge of the cliffs. I love you!

Mouse Vent

Well, Pixie hasn't quite tired of the mouse in the house thing. Sigh. Surely the novelty will wear off soon. Twice this week I had to remove the ones she brought in to play with all night long. And, sadly, that is actually preferable to another alternative that I was worried about the first time Mike and I discovered we were better mouse catchers than we would have ever imagined. Good thing the mouse thing didn't turn out to be like the tooth pulling thing...neither one of us can handle pulling a child's tooth out so they pretty much have to do that on their own. So anyway, back to the Mouse Vent...

Remember the first time Pixie let a mouse go and then literally sat back and watched us run around like nuts moving furniture to catch that dang thing in the computer room? Well, I was eyeballing the vent wondering about the size of the openings and thinking I bet a mouse can fit through those holes. I even looked at new ones...well, they were a little too pricey to replace 15 vents all at once. I should have started then a couple at a time, but you know me, that would have bothered me having different vents for 6 months. Then it happened. One night, Pixie must have either gotten bored or one got away...right down a vent. I saw it the next day, but it got away from me too! I opened a window hoping it would hop out but noooo....it had the sweet life!!

The mouse discovered it go anywhere it wanted! The cat food in the kitchen, the cat food in the master bath were prime destinations. What a bold little mousie! Way to give it back to the predator that brought you in the house in the first place! What amazing irony! I appreciated that, but it wasn't going to continue! Mice have babies you know....ALL the time!

So we went to Home Depot and bought some Kind mouse traps and some Vicious mouse traps. And a couple new vents to try out. Which are actually called registers. Fact of the day. We bought a little baby sized milk crate about 6"x 6" and used a trick my mom said my dad devised. Mike cut a larger hole so the mouse could get in and put it over the Kind mouse trap - sticky paper with dry cat food on top. It's like fly paper for rodents and has something in it like a nerve agent that's supposed to put them to sleep. Mike put something really heavy on top of that so the cats couldn't get to it by mistake. The new registers went by the other cat dish so the mouse would be forced to come out near the trap if it wanted fast food...I hoped.

It took a day and a half. Pretty much exactly when Mike would be gone for 14+ hours on the road trip to Missouri with Taryn. Another piece of irony I did not appreciate. I was in the computer room when all of a sudden I heard a racket. Amazing how much noise one mouse trying to tap dance on fly paper can make. I crept in and saw it and it was so pitiful. I hate killling things. So I put a big bucket over the whole thing so I wouldn't have to see it and maybe muffle the noise. My mom said it would feel better dying in a dark safe place. Thanks mom! It was agonizing listening to the thing dance for its life. I couldn't take it. I went outside. I actually felt guilty. It was a cute little mouse. Sniff.

I couldn't go to the bathroom in my own bathroom. I couldn't hang out on my computer because I had one ear cocked to listen for the mouse. I couldn't take my bubble bath either. Are you kidding me? Every time I thought it was finally in mousie heaven, it made noise again! When Mike finally got home he lifted the plastic bucket, and there were two little beady eyes staring at him! Oh, and by the way, that little mousie had tap danced its way off the paper! What a survivor! Mike performed a mousie evacuation and amazingly enough, that little rodent actually lived to tell the tale.....to his forest friends! Let's hope he had enough time to recover from his 4 hour nerve agent induced nap before Pixie or Diego caught sight of him! Not that I really care, but geez, that little thing deserved a breather.

So, that was the story part of the Mouse Vent....the real vent of the Vent, another mouse in the vent yesterday. A different kind of mouse, so not a baby of the first one. I was doing the tap dancing this time in my commode room to keep it in there while Mike came running in to catch it. That is a hilarious story, but this is long enough. So a couple hundred bucks later we have 15 new vents that are mousie proof. Twenty dollar cat door so Pixie could go in and out at night. Yeah, that was worth it.

Early Birthday

Gib celebrated part of his birthday today just a little bit early. Because he will turn 14 on the Philmont trail, we did cards and presents and had birthday cake. The best gift of all was his own cell phone with texting. Gib had to put a puzzle together to figure out his cell phone number, then call it to find it. This took him forever! The puzzle part that is...Mike is one dang good puzzle maker. Not so good at hiding something when a child is nearby and then texting a birthday message when that child is within hearing range. Mike had to re-hide the cell phone that Mariah had hidden but didn't do nearly as good a job and Gib, the little demon, was all eyes.

Gib and Mariah previously shared a cell phone that they would take with them whenever they went somewhere so they could reach us. I am happy because now I can text Gib or even Riah with important messages such as "dentist appt: you are a car rider - do NOT get on the bus" and hopefully they remember to check their phones when school gets out and won't make me wait in the 30 minute car rider pick up line in vain anymore. But this privilege comes with important responsibility and they better not mess it up because dad was not 100% on board with the texting thing and we had to compromise with stricter limitations. Remember: What good parents giveth, good parents can taketh away!!

When Gib gets back from his backpacking trip we will all go out for his birthday dinner and get to hear all about his adventures on the trail. He leaves before dawn on July 1st and returns late night on the 13th. I am starting to take deep breaths when I think about this trip...cliffs, bears, broken bones, forest fires, sunburns, blisters, and that's just off the top of my head. Give me 10 minutes and I could list alot more. Gib: Stay behind the big guys *unless they're doing something stupid* until the 11th so you can turn 14 and come home safe!!!!

For Will - Readers Digest Version

This is for Will and all the other males in Ringo's World universe...but beware, your daughters may someday require YOU to go on a photo shoot (Mike had to go on Indy's!) and you will need advance warning of how to handle the entire day!

The photo shoot from the male perspective:
  • Paid for some blow drying and hair spray
  • Paid someone to paint toes and nails
  • Put half a closet worth of clothes in the car
  • Drove to the castle where Taylor Swift's video was made (the only interesting part of the day)
  • Watched photographers take an endless amount of photos
  • Smiled pitingly at the one uncomfortable dad who had Photo Shoot Duty with all the other females and had to do things with drapes, safety pins, necklaces, and answering the question asked over and over again "how do I look?"

And..... when the photos arrived, had to explain why there were wrinkles in the pink dress!

The Photo Shoot

Taryn had her senior pictures taken yesterday. Everything went well, we rode out the few minor road bumps we encountered with the grace I am so well known for (it's ok to laugh right here)...actually, I was pretty freakin' calm considering how it all went down.

At 9:00 our day started when I went up to see what outfits Taryn ended up selecting. Mariah was in there with Taryn and they had outfits laid out with jewelry and shoes. We took off shortly after that for the hair styling appointment. I had asked Taryn what her plans were for her nails and she said she thought she had time to do them before we left. She was under the impression the appt was at 4:30, but it was at 1:30. Yeah, that changes things!

So on the way home, I asked T how long she needed to do her makeup, and calculated that we had just enough time to take her in for a mani/pedi. It was a close call but it turned out to be a really good decision and everytime I saw her hands posed for a photo I was soooo happy we had done it.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, I had phoned Mariah during the hair appt and passed along a request from T to come along as a Clothes Caddy and help chose backdrops and stuff like she had done for Indy. Mariah was thrilled, of course. I phoned Mariah again from the nail salon and told her now we were under a real time crunch and she needed to get all the accessories in sandwich baggies and attach them to the hangers of each outfit so the necklaces, rings, and earrings were with the proper outfit. She got a plastic crate and put all the shoes in it, and put each shirt on the loop of the belt of the pants, and the baggie of jewelry she attached to the hanger of the outfit it went with. She did a really great job!

We got home with 20 minutes to spare on the Early Bird Schedule, 30 minutes on the Right On Time Schedule and 40 minutes on the Pushing It Schedule for Taryn to get her make up done, grab a bite to eat, brush her teeth and get everything in the car. Taryn, true to form, made the Early Bird Schedule. Mariah began her assistant duties by helping with things like undoing T's bra, helped clasp the new one, get her dress on, opened make up and handed things to Taryn so she wouldn't mess up the nail polish and stuff like that while I hauled all the clothes and shoes down to the car. Hey, we live to serve the Queen in situations like these!

Only one little problem was discovered on the way to the photo shoot. I asked "did we get everything - shoes, belts, the right bras, etc?" and Taryn said, "you did get my belt didn't you?!" and Mariah was all, "what belt?!" Oh no! Taryn was pretty sure her pants would not stay up right without it and I debated whether or not I could drop the girls off, go home and back before she needed that outfit. It would take me an hour so I decided not and phoned Mike figuring we'd make do if he couldn't get away. Luckily, Mike came through, found the belt hidden under something in Taryn's room which is how Mariah missed it.

The photo shoot started with us in a 4 girl rotation, which I kind of thought was a bit of a puppy mill. No major snags. We refused to put on the cap for the cap and gown photos because A) it'd mess up her hair and the rest of the photos follow that - stupid planning as usual when I'm not in charge and B) We don't want a cap & gown photo anyway.

The first roadbump was no biggie, but it would have helped if I had my reading glasses to speed the recovery time up. The chain of a necklace Taryn had taken off and needed to put on again had gotten all tangled up. After a few minutes I had most of it out and Taryn's young eyes finished the rest. Whew!

About halfway thru the indoor shoot, we hit another roadbump. I was checking the dress for the outdoor photo and saw some major wrinkleage going on. I'm like, hello?! Remember when I said let me know if I need to steam anything? Taryn says she likes it that way. Well, that may be the case for YOU, but this photo is going on MY wall, and for the next 30 years or so, that wrinkled dress is going to drive me crazy. As I was trying to smooth and pull out the worst of the wrinkles, some lady came over and offered to plug in an iron. The shirt for the other outfit of the outdoor portion of the shoot, and mind you, the outdoor shots are the ones we REALLY care about because that's where I'm hoping to get THE shot for my wall....was passable, but a little touch of an iron at the hem and collar wouldn't hurt. So Mariah went with Taryn for the next set of poses and helped choose the backdrops for that outfit while I was madly ironing on a countertop as fast as I could.

Roadbump #3 came along when Taryn was changing into that blouse and we were preparing to drive over to the castle for the outdoor photos. The blouse has a side zipper that got totally stuck. Mariah and I spent about 5 minutes coaxing and pulling it. Finally we got it....and then the middle of the zipper split. Rather than go though all that again and be late, I decided just to safety pin the spot closed.

We arrived at the castle. This is where the Taylor Swift video was shot. Mariah was excited to romp around on sacred ground! She even took her own video on her cell phone to remember the moment. It was hot outside and I'm hoping the sheen doesn't show too much on Taryn's face in the castle shots because they looked like they might be really good. The photographer had a few minutes because the next person wasn't there yet and we got to see all the outdoor shots of Taryn and I saw some really good ones in there! YAY!!

It was a fun, but long day! I am glad I have a bit of a break before Gib has his, and even then, I know the hair and nails won't be taking as long!!

Not a Dorito Chip!

Sometime right after we moved here, I got on Mariah's case for dropping a yellow Dorito chip in the middle of the hall floor I had just swept. As she went to pick it up, she realized it was a moth! We examined it, and discovered that its wings bi-fold in and over to its body and when they opened, revealed a really cool red middle and bright black spot! We tried to find out what kind it is but never could. Nor did we ever see another one, until today!

Gib just went outside to lower the umbrella for a possible incoming thunderstorm this afternoon and said "Hey there's a big cool yellow butterfly thing on the door". As soon as I saw it I yelled for Mariah who yelled for a camera. She opened its wings with a matchstick and I snapped the shot before it fluttered away.

6/24: Part 2

Taryn chose The Cheesecake Factory for dinner- Yum!
Back at home to open presents...starting with the mystery gift! Mariah found it in the Closet of No Return and we decided to wrap it. We all guessed what it might be...I won! Chocolates! No one remembers how, when or why they got there. We told Taryn not to eat them...

Cool! A neat silk purse with a bill inside!!
Taryn won this gift way back when at a silent auction
It's 5 leather bound Shakespeare books
Yes, you only see 4 because she kept 1 and already read it!

Gib was a little concerned we were giving Taryn summer reading
assignments for a gift, but then found out she really likes
Shakespeare and reads it for fun!
A Hello Kitty Key Cover to match her cover up for college next year! You know, just in case she has to unlock her door in her pj's.
Making a Wish....

Looks like it was a GOOD one!!

Photos of 6/24: Part 1

Taryn's Cupcakes & Flowers
Left box: Top left corner is the peanut butter cup (3) a caramel sugar mama, a chocolate cookie crunch, and a white midnight chocolate chip
Right box: the 3 yellow ones are lemon supreme, 2 key lime pie, and 1 white wedding cake
Taryn said that her co-workers were very jealous of her Birthday Surprise cupcake and that there was an awful lot of pink frosting on it that should be shared. I'm pretty sure she didn't share!!

For Mickie and other Inquiring Minds
Here's Indy's haircut!
She's going to go a little shorter next time around and grow out her bangs

More photos of Taryn's bday later. She just left to go shopping. We are hoping she finds a cute outfit and accessories for her senior photo which is....tomorrow afternoon!!! She has been quite unconcerned about getting outfits ready for it. Taryn is getting her hair done tomorrow and there's not alot of time afterwards to get ready, so this is it. During the brief time I saw her before she left for the mall, she said she has a couple of things in mind, and Indy will be helping her with final selections tomorrow...which I strongly suggested take place tonight so there's time for laundry, ironing, and/or a crisis situation such as finding the perfect earrings or pair of shoes!

SEVENTEEN!

Happy Birthday Taryn!

That crazy girl agreed to go into Adventure Science Center on her own birthday so she is already gone today. Yesterday while she was there, we decided to go out and get her flowers - red & yellow lilies and red gerbera daisies - that are reminiscent of fireworks, and some musical birthday cards that, what else, play songs like "Great Balls of Fire" and "Smoke on the Water"! Then we went to a new cupcake place down the street and bought a dozen gourmet cupcakes in a variety of flavors. We had them put one called Birthday Surprise in a sealed box for her to take to work today. I love their colorful pastry boxes - they look so yummy. Besides that one, we also got lemon supreme, chocolate cookie crunch, white chocolate chip, peanut butter cup, key lime pie, caramel, & wedding cake....if I remember them all. Mariah was very bummed that when we got there, they were sold out of Root Beer Float! Oh well, maybe next year on her birthday!

I should take a picture of them when she is blowing out her candles. I can't do it now, because I have to go back to pick up the other half of our order because each day of the week, different cupcakes are available so we got some yesterday and are getting the rest today.

I hope she likes it. Mariah and I are debating whether or not to bake a pound cake now though so we'll have something to put the number 1 and 7 candles on; and then that means we need strawberries and whipped cream; and that means Taryn will need her OWN can of whipped cream. I feel like I'm reading a "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" book!!

Taryn is only working a half day, but she is going to the mall and maybe a movie with a friend and won't return until after 7 pm for her wonderful birthday cupcakes and presents, oh and a little something known as - Your Birthday Dinner At a Restaurant Of Your Choice! I guess we'll be eating a late lunch and I'll be guarding cupcakes this evening!

We Are Oriented

We returned from Mercer last night. The college orientation went pretty well. The hotel as a great gathering place to pre-meet other Mercer bound students was a flop, but the pool was nice. Hot, but nice.

The parental portions of orientation were informative and interesting. Indy went off and did her own thing. The kids had some of the same information sessions, just separate from the parentals. She didn't need to take any placement exams so she was hanging out for an extra hour with other kids not taking any exams. She got her Bear Card (student ID) made but she's getting her hair chopped off tomorrow so that ID will be run over accidentally by the car and she will be getting another one made when she goes back in August. Every guy says "it's ok, nobody looks at it". Indy and I keep replying "WE DO!" Guys just don't understand!

Mariah accompanied us on this trip and she had "sibling fun" for 3 hours. I'm not sure it was a ton of fun, but she did okay. I would have organized it differently were I in charge, but then I think that alot. They played some games and stuff. Bop It, Monopoly, did some crafts with popsicle sticks. Whatever. After that, Mariah hung with me. We said HI to Indy and met some of her new friends while they were eating lunch, we toured the info fair together, we ate our lunch together, talked to people, and shopped for t-shirts for a family photo (which Indy has pronounced "cheesy"). Mariah discovered an untapped mystery talent for pointing at a balloon with her Mercer map/fan on a stick and popping it from 25 feet away. Kinda scary but cool. We tried and tried to do it again, but it was a one time wonder. Even when I added "Silence! I KEEL you!" it didn't work.

Indy met people she liked (guys) but couldn't find a roomie (girls). Actually, there was one, but just before Indy was about to ask her if she had a roommate yet, she overheard her say she was going to be a commuter student (and only 2 families there that day were commuters), so she wouldn't be staying in dorms. Wouldn't you know it?! So she will be playing Roommate Lotto and I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not. Indy usually only wins a free ticket when she does the Lotto thing. So now we won't know until end of July or mid-August who her roommate is and whether or not their stuff with clash with ours!

Indy took Mike with her to meet with an academic advisor. Parents weren't exactly advised to be there. I guess I can see where some parents can be a little too much and the kid needs to start being in charge of their own decisions. But since Indy has been doing this quite successfully for some time, and requested her dad accompany her, Mike didn't have any qualms about going against the advice we had just been given to say out of the academic advising meeting. Indy had heard several kids had scheduling problems and since she wanted to switch her Calculus to Chemistry she was concerned about how that might affect things. Calculus was full, so the advisor was a little nervous about taking her out to put her in Chem because he wasn't sure he'd be able to put her back in again if it didn't work out. There was no other way to do it though because the computer wouldn't let her enroll in 18 credit hours and then drop one class. Luckily, it worked out! Indy is very happy with her classes and once she gets over her early morning start times, she'll like her schedule too. She will have 16 credit hours.

She'll be taking First Year Seminar X which is only for the Service Scholars. It gives her 5 credit hours and extends the required Freshman seminar with weekly tutoring at an elementary school. She is excited about that. Oh, and.....she also gets to go camping and go on ropes course exercises with her cohorts group! I wonder if she knows about that yet?! I just read that in the catalog. Here's the course descriptions for grandparents and those who want to know more:

The First Year Seminar course sequence is the gateway to a liberal arts education at Mercer University. FYS 101—Composing the Self—and FYS 102—Engaging the World— introduce the student to the essential skills of critical reading, critical writing, and effective communication. Students develop and practice these skills through reading and discussing texts and by composing essays in which they propose and defend original theses with critical arguments. Students and instructors also apply these skills by discussing diverse texts and events in classes that are taught in a seminar setting with limited enrollment. In the Fall semester, students will read and discuss texts that speak to the theme of “composing the self.” In the Spring semester, students will consider issues related to “engaging the world,” whether as individuals or as part of a community. While various sections employ diverse texts, assignments, and approaches to explore these themes, all sections focus on helping students develop the habits of thought essential to critical thinking, reading, and writing. For this reason, FYS 101 and 102 are common core requirements in the College of Liberal Arts' General Education program.

Students will explore questions of the sources, worth, and consequences of individual
identity while they practice critical thinking, reading, and writing. All sections require use of diverse interdisciplinary texts and substantial written work. FYS 102 Prerequisite: Successful completion of FYS 101 or consent of the Director. Students will explore questions of life in the world, through such issues as social justice, cross-cultural interaction, and the conflict of social duty and the individual conscience, while they practice critical thinking, reading, and writing. All sections require use of diverse interdisciplinary texts and substantial written work.

This one sounds the same but isn't. This is required for all students who have been accepted into the Honors Program.

HON 101. First Year Honors Seminar I (1 hour)
This course introduces first year honors students to the Honors Program at Mercer
University. Students meet weekly in seminar format to read, to write about, and to discuss works chosen by the individual instructor.

And the rest of her schedule is as follows:

GBK 101. Among Gods and Heroes (3 hours) http://mercer.edu/gbk/
The introductory course in the Great Books Program concentrates on the ancient Greeks
and includes works by Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Thucydides, and Plato.

PSY 101. Introduction to Psychology (3 hours)
An introduction to and survey of the major content areas of psychology. The topics include biological, cognitive, social, and environmental influences on behavior, as well as the variety of philosophical, theoretical, and empirical approaches adopted by the discipline.

CHM 111. General Chemistry I (4 hours)
Prerequisite: MAT 133 or equivalent, or coenrollment in CHM 099.
CHM 111 is the first course in a two-part sequence that introduces students to the fundamental principles of chemistry. It studies matter and its transformation in chemical reactions. The states of matter, stoichiometry, equilibrium, and acid-base chemistry are treated in detail and are explained on the basis of atomic structure, chemical bonding, molecular geometry, and the kinetic molecular theory. Laboratory work introduces volumetric and simple analytical techniques in chemistry. The course includes three one-hour lectures and one three-hour laboratory each week.

Fathers Day Road Trip 2

Our Father's Day will be spent on the road again. After going to Missouri and back in a day, we arrived home at 4:30 a.m. We slept in until around 10 or 11 am. Got caught up with Gib about his Boy Scout camp experience. Got one night's rest and are off again this morning for Macon, Georgia. Indy has her college orientation tomorrow morning. We are staying at the hotel where the college has a block of rooms reserved so I hope we get there early enough to meet other people there for orientation...if not, there's always the pool, and I understand from my Georgian friend, that I better expect humidity like I've never experienced it before! Mariah is accompanying us on this trip. Since I am not packed yet and we hope to get out of here this morning, I'd better get to it.

Just want to wish everyone a Happy Father's Day! Thanks Dads for all you do in our lives, for your support and guidance, for working hard and taking time to have fun with your kids. We love you!

And it brings warm feelings to my heart...

Gib, as the troop's highest ranking scout at Boxwell scout camp this week, has the leadership responsibility for the 68 boys in attendance. This year Gib is taking the 3 hour a day COPE program and a 2 hour rifle shooting class.

Each year he has attended I have gone up to visit for an evening and have dinner with the scouts. Last night was my visit. I am not sure the food was worth the $7 dollar meal pass, but the company was fabulous! When I arrived at their camp, Gib was down at the waterfront, so I just began visiting with the adult leaders that were there.

I have to tell you that in the hour that I was there before Gib returned, 3 of the adult leaders took the time to chat with me and express their amazement with Gib's leadership skills. Not only his ability to manage 68 scouts, no small feat itself, but that he understands what motivates the boys and uses it to his advantage. These are comments that a father loves to hear!

Gib tells me that COPE is a lot of challenging team building type activities mixed in with rock climbing and other adventures that appeal to teenage boys. He also said his rifle shooting class was a blast and wants to take the shotgun class next year.

After dinner, he was going to go swimming, so I walked with him to the shuttle stop. As we walked, I told him about the comments I received. He said that those same leaders had told him as well, after which, he turned to me, and with the humor he shares with his mother, said, "And it brings warm feelings to my heart."

More Texts About Blowing Stuff Up

6/16 6:40 pm

Hey I just finished eating. We blew up some copper with c4 and then learned abt eods military bomb squad and got to play with the robot and i managed to accidently open a water bottle on katherine.

sounds like the afternoon was more fun. did K get wet?

ya it looked like she wet her pants

lol did she get mad?!

no she thought it was hilarious and my camera battery died so i cant take n e more pics and cuz of some guys in our group we ca no longer go out to the gas station so i cnt get n e more batteries.

i bet the ras would get u some. its a bummer when people ruin the fun for everyone. sometimes you gotta just make ur own fun in times like this. since u didnt do anything wrong it seems reasonable to ask the ra to get u batteries or a deck of cards since everyone is grounded for the nite. bummer. hopefully tomorrow will be better.

6/17 12:37 pm

Charlie & Trevor Weekend

So last weekend we had our special pre-mission visit from Charlie & Trevor. Charlie is going to New Mexico and Trevor to Honduras. We had a great time with the guys. They wore out Mariah's Magic Date Ball and I'm sure they got answers to many important questions above and beyond who got to sleep in the room with the drum set and who had to sleep in the room Charlie dubbed the Tranquil Turquoise room (which by rule of the Magic Date Ball he won!). They also spent many an hour on the Wii with Boogie Superstar and wow, were they ever stars! Especially in Mariah's eyes! She kicked their heinys at Mario Kart while Indy was at work, but Gib returned home from his 20 mile hike and re-tipped the scales in the manly department and saved the boys from too many more hours of Boogie Superstar or Date Ball torture. Then Indy saved them all and took 'em bowling. The guys brought some sticks and rings and they played some ancient toss the doohickey and trim the shrubbery while you're at it game. That was fun. Dinner was served. Then I waxed the table, slicked down the chairs and we played Spoons that night. Got a few photos of the evening. There's a little video that Mariah and Charlie took of the Spoons game on my facebook page if you haven't seen it already. Oh yeah, and Gib shaved his head for Philmont. That's about it.

Trevor, Indy, Charlie

I hated Trevor's stupid hat. He likes it 'cause the cow has horns and udders. And it's asleep. And it's huge compared to the barn. And it has a secret compartment for drugs or pass along cards. The list is endless why it's hideous and why he loves it. I wish he brought his 5' trout pillow like last time instead.

They left us and went on to visit the other 5 GIRLS they met and maintained friendships from EFYs. Hey can they help it if all the guys are already on their missions?! Players!!! Haha. I thought that was sooo funny.
